Career Prospects

Agricultural Management (AgMan) students have a diverse range of career opportunities in both the South African and global agricultural industries. In South Africa, they can pursue roles such as farm managers, agribusiness consultants, supply chain coordinators, and sustainability analysts, focusing on improving efficiency and productivity in local farming operations. With the rise of AgTech, opportunities also exist in precision agriculture, drone operations, and data analytics. Globally, AgMan graduates can explore careers in agricultural finance, international trade, food security policy, and environmental resource management. Emerging fields like vertical farming, clean meat production, and blockchain in agriculture further expand career prospects, offering exciting pathways in sustainable and technology-driven agriculture.

BSc Honours in Natural Resource Management

We take pride in our BSc Honours program, which integrates all three departments within the School of Natural Resource Science and Management—Forestry, Nature Conservation, and Agriculture. This interdisciplinary approach equips students with a deep understanding of sustainability challenges and opportunities in these fields. Through hands-on research and learning experiences, complimented by an industry tour, students gain insight into the complexities of sustainable resource management.
Agriculture, in particular, plays a dual role in both food production and biodiversity conservation within production systems. Emerging movements like conservation agriculture and regenerative agriculture emphasize ecological processes to enhance resilience in plant and animal production. These practices not only reduce input costs but also improve long-term sustainability by integrating natural ecosystem functions into modern farming.
